This essential two-morning course is aimed at non-benefit staff and volunteers working with people for whom benefits are an issue. It provides a comprehensive overview of the benefits and tax credits system and enables staff to complete basic income maximisation checks on behalf of clients, tenants and service users.The course covers:The structure of the benefit systemThe different categories of benefitsBasic entitlement to different benefitsThe basic rules of universal credit and how to claimThe benefit capWhen and how to challenge decisionsMethods of delivery and timingsThis full-day equivalent, basic-level course, is delivered online via Zoom over two consecutive mornings. It runs from 10am to 1pm on each day, with a half hour break between 11.15-11.45.It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
