This one-day standard level online course looks at the universal credit (UC) rules that particularly affect ill or disabled people.  It will equip you to advise clients about the transfer to UC, whether through ‘managed’ or ‘natural’ migration. You will also explore how the work capability assessment affects UC and the effect of working for disabled people claiming the benefit. The course covers:The latest rules on when disabled people may have to claim UC, and the consequences of claiming, including backdating rulesWhen a transitional element may applyTransitional rules for those moving from employment and support allowanceHow to deal with work capability assessment problems and challenge decisions on limited capability for workThe consequences of work capability assessment outcomes in UCHow work affects the UC award for disabled claimantsHow other disability benefits may affect UC claimantsThis course is aimed at advisers with basic knowledge and some experience of advising on UC. Method of delivery and timingsThis full-day equivalent, standard-level course, is delivered online via Zoom over two consecutive mornings. It runs from 10am to 1pm on each day, with a half hour break between 11.15-11.45. It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
