This course gives you an overview of benefit support for families in Scotland from pregnancy to school-leaving age. It covers the interaction between UK-wide universal credit and child benefit, and other support only available in Scotland, such as Scottish child payment and Best Start. The combination of payments can make a big difference to family incomes, but people often get confused about what is available, who qualifies and where to apply. Advisers, family support workers or people working in education or childcare can help ensure nobody misses out on vital income, and additional help such as free school meals. The course also looks at changes concerning the two-child limit and mitigating the benefit cap.
