Some claimants receiving ‘Legacy’ benefits under the old rules may elect to ‘jump ship’ early onto universal credit (UC) because they think it is better for them, or because they have been encouraged to do so by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) or other officials. This can result in winners and losers, with no way back.Other Legacy claimants are sitting tight, waiting for a UC ‘Migration Notice’ from the DWP that will propel them into UC, at the risk of losing all their Legacy benefits if they fail to comply.The course covers:Legacy claimants who may opt to switch to UC as early migratorsA summary of who may be better off or worse of if they choose to jump ship, including special UC support for disabled claimants still on Legacy benefits How Legacy benefit claimants can protect themselves nowHow much transitional support early migrators may get if they switch earlyHow that support may erode or be lostWhat will happen when managed migration eventually arrivesHow the managed migration process will workDeadlines and final deadlinesHow much transitional support will be payable under managed migrationHow that support may erode or be lostMethod of delivery and timingsThis full-day equivalent, experienced-level course, is delivered online via Zoom over two consecutive mornings. It runs from 10am to 1pm on each day, with a half hour break between 11.15-11.45. It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
