This course is essential for anyone who wants to challenge decisions of the First-tier Tribunal (Social Entitlement Chamber) effectively. The main aim of the course is to give you an understanding of what is an error of law, and practice in finding errors of law in the First-tier Tribunal statement of reasons.The course covers:Exploring other ways of changing First-tier Tribunal decisionsFinding errors of law in the statement of reasonsFormat of an application of appeal to the Upper TribunalProcedures from First-tier to Upper TribunalPreparing submissions to the Upper TribunalThis course is aimed at advisers with knowledge and experience of being able to find relevant law. If not, see our Understanding Social Security Law and Finding it Online training.Method of delivery and timingsThis full-day equivalent, experienced-level course, is delivered online via Zoom over two consecutive mornings. It runs from 10am to 1pm on each day, with a half hour break between 11.15-11.45. It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and group discussion. Participants will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. It is not recommended to join via a mobile phone.
