Scottish benefits courses

These courses are relevant to Scotland only. Learn about the types of help that are available to families who have low incomes. 

The first course is called 'Children's benefits in Scotland - the basics'. You will have the opportunity to learn about the benefits available to children in Scotland and practice your knowledge. This course will take about 15 minutes to complete.

The second course is called ‘Children’s benefits in Scotland - raising family incomes’. This course includes more information about Social Security Scotland’s 5 family payments as well as help with the costs of school meals and school uniform. It will take about 30 minutes to complete.

These courses were written by CPAG in Scotland and Action for Children. They're full of examples and interactive elements to help you engage with the content and practice what you've learned.

For many families, looking after a disabled child involves extra expenses. Child disability payment is a benefit designed to help families meet these extra costs. It has replaced disability living allowance for children in Scotland. Learn about who can get child disability payment, how to claim it and where to get help to claim.

This short course is made up of two modules, one about planning for funerals and the other about paying for funerals. It was written by Citizens Advice Scotland with support from CPAG in Scotland. This course is relevant to Scotland only. Learn how to help your clients access Scottish child payment so that more people claim this important source of financial support. 

Scottish child payment is a top-up benefit for lower-income families with children under the age of 16. It is intended to help tackle child poverty. Find out about who can get Scottish child payment, how to apply, and what happens after you've applied, for example if you have a change in circumstances.

This course is relevant to Scotland only. It's a practical summary of benefits paid by Social Security Scotland now as well as benefits that will be delivered by this agency in the future.

Scotland now has it's own social security system. The Scottish government sets the rules for these benefits and has set up Social Security Scotland to deliver them. Take a look at the benefits that Social Security Scotland is currently paying, including benefits for children, for disabled people, for carers and also other one-off payments. Find out which benefits will start to be delivered in the next few years.
